Would I hire me to do this?

When you find yourself wondering if you should do a project yourself (or in-house), or find someone else to do it for you, there's one question that cuts straight to the chase every time:

"With my skills, knowledge, and experience, would I hire me to do this?"

If the answer's anything other than an immediate, definite "yes”, give it to someone else and get back to the work that is in your sweet spot.

So many businesses have people doing work that isn’t what they were hired to do and doesn’t match their skills, knowledge and experience. They're just doing it because it needs to get done and they've got stuck with it.

"Just this once” projects quickly become another responsibility to add to their already over-burdened workload.

The results are rarely great, it takes far longer than it should, and it usually costs much more than it needs to.

(There's salary and other employee overheads, and the opportunity cost because they’re not doing the work they’re there to do. That's just for starters.)

It all causes a lot of frustration, disappointment, wasted time, effort, and money with very little to show for it.

Instead, what if you found someone who’s as good at doing this kind of project as you and your team are at doing what you do?

Stick to what you’re good at. Have your people stick to what they’re good at too. After all, isn’t that why you hired them in the first place?
